Eventuri intake for BMW G29 Z4 M40i
Performance increase: 17-25hp, 11-20ft-lb
The MK5 Supra Eventuri intake is designed to provide a less restrictive flow path for the turbo while maintaining low inlet temperatures. Heat and volume are the most important considerations when designing an intake system for turbocharged engines. On the G29 Z4, the intake system is located next to the exhaust manifold, which quickly warms up the engine compartment with the heat. High temperatures are detrimental to engine performance as the turbo would need to be boosted with warmed, less dense air, so the only way to keep IATs to a minimum is with a fully closed intake. However, this results in a limitation with only one air supply from which air is drawn. During development we noticed an additional opening in the wheel arch area and took advantage of this by adding an additional inlet in our air box. Additionally, our sealed airbox also features a gold reflective heat shield to minimize radiant heat transfer from the exhaust manifold. To maximize volume, we made the airbox as large as possible with a recess for potential strut struts. The stock folded intake pipe has been replaced with a smooth carbon tube, which also has a larger internal volume with an initial internal diameter of 111mm (4.4?) and gently tapers to match the turbo inlet. The pipe provides a smooth path from the filter to the turbo inlet. Finally, we use a custom-made high flow dry filter that is ISO tested for filtration performance and has a larger filter area than the standard filter.
Dyno test
Our intake for BMW G29 Z4 M40i was independently tested by AMS on a Supra (same engine) with downpipe and software. The tests were repeated the same day with only the airbox for our intake replaced. As you can see, there is a power increase across a large portion of the rev range, with some areas showing an increase of over 20 hp. This is the result of derestricting the inlet path while maintaining low inlet temperatures by maintaining a fully sealed system.
Another dyno test was carried out in the UK by Evolve Automotive using a downpipe and Stage 2 software tuning. This dyno chart shows the difference between a completely stock Supra and then with the stock airbox, downpipe and stage 2 tuning and finally with the Eventuri, downpipe and stage 2 tuning a maximum power increase of 25 hp. All runs were carried out with the hood closed.
Each intake system consists of:
Carbon fiber airbox with dual feed
Custom made high flow dry cone filter
Carbon fiber inlet pipe with 111mm opening ID
CNC machined temperature sensor bracket
CNC-milled ventilation adapter
Heat shield with reflective gold backing
Laser cut stainless steel brackets
Silicon coupler with OEM specification terminals
