The X3M/X4M Intake from BMW, although awkward at first glance, is a very well thought out system given the space available. The flow path from the filters to the turbo inlets is very direct and does not change direction as abruptly as common OEM airbox designs. So instead of a complete redesign, we focused on improving the OEM airbox with less restrictive flow and improved temperature efficiency. We have developed non-woven fabric replacement filters that have a much higher flow rate compared to the paper filters. To reduce air intake temperatures and force air into the airbox, we designed large front scoops that sit behind the grilles. The carbon blades direct air into the channels and effectively insulate the inlet side of the air box. The final piece is the carbon airbox lid, which while it doesn't increase power, allows for a more audible intake sound and gives the engine bay a much-needed aesthetic upgrade.
